CNC Router Cutting Information

We also have a large full sheet CNC router machine capable of cutting anything a laser cannot cut. This includes larger sheets, ACM (ACP) - Aluminium Composite Material / Panel, for signage, back panels, display boards, also carbon fiber panels, and fiberglass, which cannot be cut with a laser.
We also cnc carve signs into natural wooden (macrocarpa, pine, etc) planks and slabs for beautiful looking signs. Popular for lifestyle home, cottages, sheds, garages, man caves, batches, BBQ areas, plots, gardens, secret hideaways, bookabatch, airbnb, park signs, recreational and wayfinding, path or track or historic site signage.

How does our CNC router cutter and carving work

Our CNC router machine is able to cut almost anything except ferrous materials (not iron or steel). It has a bed size of 2650x1500x165mm (xyz), so can handle most standard sheet sizes (1220mm by 2440mm) easily. A CNC (Computer Numerical Control) router machine is a flat table, with a moving gantry above it which holds a VFD spindle motor, very similar to hand held "router" tool. The spindle motor spins at high speed - up to 18,000 rpm, and is fitted with various type of cutting, or milling bits shapes, and types (like drill bits - but milling bits can cut sideways as well). All CNC type cutting has a radius on all internal cuts (based on half the size of the milling bit). This radius can be beneficial in adding strength from fracturing or cracking from the corners, but can also get in the way of slotting materials together. For small, one-off parts, this can be filed away manually, but for quantity or production runs, you can incorporate special design features (search "cnc dog-bones") to offset the rounded corners slightly.
With CNC router cutting, the cutting bit does not have to cut completely through the material, it can remove material in layers - sometimes called "pockets", or pocketing.
All of the cutting is processed and driven by software, which reads in the outline, or a profile CAD file. We can draft the CAD file, based on your dimensions, or even a paper drawing, or you can supply us the file in most any common vector formats (dxf type is one example).

Quality and finishing.

Varies depending on material type, and quality (for wood, it must be dry), and also, the speed of cutting. Cutting speeds are particular to the type of material, sometimes the speed can be increased - to make the job run faster, and therefore cheaper, however this can mean a poor cut quality, requiring more time spent finishing.
We will always use the best quality settings for all jobs, which makes your finishing (sanding/buffing/polishing) if any is required - easier.
If you would like us to try cutting, or engraving a different type of material, or an unknown material, we would prefer to do a test cut on a small area, or on seperate sample first to determine specific cutting parameters.
There are a lot of material factors which can change cutting and engraving quality.
